Jojoba Oil and Beeswax Finish

$7.00

This finish is perfect for wooden utensils. The jojoba oil soaks in the give it a beautiful look and to protect the wood protected from water that will dry and damage and also from oil or food which may create a bad smell. Jojoba oil doesn’t go rancid like most oils you’d find in a kitchen. The beeswax adds another layer of protecting by keeping the jojoba oil in place as well as also being a barrier against water, oil and food. If you start seeing dry spots or the wood starts feeling rough that’s a good time to apply some more finish.

APPLICATION

The following steps are for the best application. If you just need to get some more finish on go right ahead and apply it without following these steps. I know life’s busy so do what you have to.

  1. If you have a piece of high grit sandpaper (180 or above) give the utensil a quick once over. Nothing crazy, just soften any rough spots you find. If you don’t have any sandpaper it’s not a big deal, just skip on to the next step.

  2. Set your oven to its lowest setting (ours is 250). Place the utensil on something oven safe like a pie tin or cookie sheet and place it in the oven.

  3. Wait for about 2-3 minutes. You want the utensil warm enough to melt the oil but not hot enough to burn your hands.

  4. WARNING: if it feels like it’s just bearable to touch the wood then it’s TOO HOT. When you apply the oil it will take on the temperature of the wood but then soak into your skin and cause pain. If you need to let the utensil sit for a moment please do. It just needs to be warm enough to soften the beeswax in the oil. We’ve mixed the wax and oil so that it is barely solid at room temperature so it shouldn’t take much heat at all.

  5. To apply simply scrape some finish out with your finger and apply to the wood and watch your utensil become brand new again. It’s not only safe for your hands and skin, it feels great too. Jojoba oil is actually used as a skin care product.
